I had really been wanting to buy a tool to score my cards and projects but I was reluctant to spend $40 on it. I have been doing some research and was talking to my mom about it when she told me about this great technique she saw on a scrapbooking show (she doesn't scrapbook but she watches them so that she can give me awesome ideas like this one!). She told me that I can use two of the tools I already have (a paper cutter and a stylus) to do exactly what I was wanting. So tonight, I tried it - and it works SO well! Here are the pics:
This is my Fiskars trimmer that I have had for YEARS and use every single day, and my stylus which I bought to do embossing with my light box but have found a bazillion other uses for:
So the technique is to simply lay your paper on top of the trimmer and instead of using the trimmer, you run your stylus along the groove! And it really makes a nice score in the paper. Here is a pic of me scoring some basic card stock with the cutting arm down:
So i got tired of putting the arm up and down and wanted to compare how it would work without using the arm:
And it worked just as well. Yay!
Moral of the story: look at what you already have in new ways. Although I am sure that the new tool would work great, this technique will work just perfectly for what I need to do!

Erin,
New to your blog...found it through Craft Warehouse's web site. Your designs are wonderful.
I think the Fisker's idea is awesome! I did buy a Scor-it (i was informed by the wonderful and talneted Kim Ross) not to get a Scor-pal as they are not as good. I got mine at Archiver's for a good price but then again i did have a 30% off coupon.
Anyway....your system works very well. I am looking for a "Guide" to emboss as well. Chatterbox put one out through Close to My Heart....a few years ago...but they no longer carry it. It was called an "Image guide" was the COOLEST thing...a 12X12 mat...much like a cutting mat....with all the little grid lines...if you wanted you embossing 1/2" or 1/16th of an inch...you simply guided your paper off the edge and the left hand side of your paper was on the measurement line of your liking...thus the right side you could embossing whatever measurement you chose...was the neastest little pad. I have found a great embossing tool from Ekay. It has a small and big roller tip....but dang it if I can find anything close to that measurment pad. I have tried so many other "pads" but they tear the paper as they are a bit "rougher and a bit deeper" than embossing requires. Can you help me? Have you heard anything like that at all as far as the measuring pad? And yes I have tried Chatterbox...and they no longer make them...;o(
My email is NE1113@aol.com if you have any ideas for me.
Thanks so much,
Jann
Sorry...the guide from Chatterbox was call....
